Welcome To Department Of Pharmacognosy And Phytochemistry

Department is involved in research in the field of discovery and development of herbal drugs, phytopharmaceuticals and microbial products; quality control and analysis of principal component/markers and fingerprinting; enhanced in-vitro production of secondary metabolites using plant tissue culture and fermentation technologies; studies on herbal cosmetics, immunomodulatory, anti-obesity and antidiabetic medicinal plants as well as screening of new drug molecules, standardized herbal drugs/extracts for their bioactivities. It has successfully completed UGC-SAP DRS programme. It is a DST-FIST recognized facility with seven research labs and two graduate labs. Currently more than 20 Ph.D. scholars are working in the department besides fifteen M. Pharm students annually. Department offers PG courses in Pharmacognosy and phytochemistry and pharmaceutical biotechnology.

The main research activities in the department include natural product research. More than 350 research papers in national and International journals have been published from the department. The average impact factor of department is 1.34 and h-index is 11.5. Now-a-days there is significant demand of reference standards from medicinal plants. This being the extension of the work we are already involved, we will be upgrading our department with respect to equipments needed for this venture. Preparatory extraction and isolation facility (consisting of PLE and pHPLC-Mass with mass interface) will be setup to establish a natural product repository in future.
