The erstwhile Rufadia School of Nursing, now School of Nursing Sciences & Allied Health , was established in 1983 as per the vision of Janab Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb, the founder of Jamia Hamdard, who wanted to encourage girls from Muslim minority community and weaker sections of the society to take up the noble profession of Nursing. Jamia Hamdard became ‘Deemed to be University’ in the year 1989. Rufaida College of Nursing initially started with Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery Programme, and later in 1994, 2008 2013 and 2014, B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing, M.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing and Ph.D. in Nursing were started, respectively. The School of Nursing Sciences & Allied Health, Jamia Hamdard has been working towards the achievement of following objectives, ever since its inception:
- To provide good quality education and training to student nurses at the undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral levels.
- To participate in health care delivery system of India in promotion of health, prevention of illness, care of sick, restoration of health and rehabilitation.
The courses offered by School of Nursing Sciences & Allied Health are recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). The students are given clinical, ‘hands-on’ training in the parent hospital i.e. HAHC Hospital and other affiliated hospitals, such as Safdarjung Hospital, VIMHANS, IHBAS, health centre cum Maternity Home,M.C.D, Badarpur, to name a few. The School of Nursing Sciences & Allied Health members and students since year 2000 and have been successfully running Rufaida Health Centre, a Community Outreach Centre, situated in Sangam Vihar, opposite Jamia Hamdard. The students and teachers have been continuously involved in various researches and community service activities, such as conduction of mass health education projects, health camps, health melas etc.
Their participation and endeavours in certain health issues such as immunization, maternal and child health, prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and alcoholism, promotion of mental health etc., have been commendable. Students participate in various cultural, sports and co-curricular activities and have won many prizes.
