          The Department of Medical Elementology and Toxicology offers M.Sc. course. It also offers Ph.D. programme. The major areas of research include the role of elements in biological systems, toxic manifestations and abnormalities caused by the excessive exposure to or the deficiency of elements. The department also carries out research on mechanistic aspects of chemical carcinogenesis, oxidative stress, and chemo prevention aspects of disease control using herbal preparations. The department has programmes on Neuro-behavioural Toxicology, Predictive Toxicology and Environmental Monitoring, Risk Assessment and Safety evaluation, Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology, Metal Toxicology, Chemoprevention and Nutrition Toxicology and Analytical Toxicology. The department has one Professor, two Readers and four Lecturers.

          Good academic record with a doctoral degree or equivalent published work. In addition to these, candidates who join from outside the university system, shall also possess at least 55% of the marks or an equivalent grade of B in the 7 point scale with latter grades O,A,B,C,D,E & F in M.Sc.

          Five years of experience of teaching and/or research excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degrees and has made some mark in the areas of scholarship as evidenced by the quality of publications, contribution to educational innovation, design of new courses and curricula. The Ph.D degree should be in areas related to Environmental Biotechnology.

Note: Candidates should be qualified in the area of Environmental Biotechnology particularly in relation to the conversion and biodegradation of waste products such as polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, pesticides etc. or bio-remediation or conversion of waste into value aided products etc. Should be able to built an stellar programme in this area by attracting national/international funding and should be able to teach similar courses at M.Sc. level.
