Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations - Lecture by Shri Tushar Gandhi Ji, Great Grandson of Mahatma Gandhi Ji

 Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

Gandhi Jayanti is an event celebrated in India to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. The event is marked by prayer services, commemorative ceremonies in different cities by colleges, local government institutions, socio-political institutions and tributes all over India.

On this occasion, Jamia Hamdard and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan present a National Webinar on 2nd October, 2021, on “RELEVANCE OF GANDHIAN PRINCIPLES FOR TODAY’S YOUTH”.  The Keynote speaker of the event is Mr. Tushar A. Gandhi, Great Grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and President, Mahatma Gandhi Foundation. Tushar Arun Gandhi is the son of journalist Arun Manilal Gandhi, grandson -. He was the Goodwill Ambassador of the CISRI-ISP Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition. Since 1996, he has served as the President of the Lok Seva Trust for the welfare of textile-mill labourers. In 2000, Mr Tushar Gandhi portrayed himself in a fictional Tamil - Hindi movie directed by Kamal Hassan, "Hey Ram," and in 2009 he did likewise in a semi-fictional movie, "Road to Sangam," based on an episode in his own life. A nonfiction book by him, ‘Let's Kill Gandhi’, was published in 2007 and became a best seller in India. In 2008, he was appointed as Chairman of the Australian Indian Rural Development Foundation (AIRDF). In 2018 he played a significant role in petitioning successfully in the Supreme Court of India to direct the States and Union Territories to comply with its orders to curb cow-vigilante lynch mobs. In 2019, he became a Director of the Gandhi Research Foundation in Jalgaon, Maharashtra.

The Webinar will be Presided by Mr. Hamid Ahmed, Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard. Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, will also deliver his thoughtful words about Gandhiji. The webinar will be organized by Jamia Hamdard on Saturday, 2nd October 2021 from 01:15 P.M. onwards through the Google Meet Platform. An active participation of all colleagues, research scholars, and students is highly desired and solicited. Your gracious presence is all that helps in making these endeavours successful. The event will be hosted on Google Meet Platform and will be broadcasted LIVE through social media channels of Jamia Hamdard.  The maximum participation through the Google Meet link is 100; participants who would not be able to join through meet link can join YouTube LIVE streaming of the event. All Heads, Deans and In-charges are requested to share the information widely and usher their staff and students to be part of this great occasion.
